With so many new TV shows coming up every year on small screen, pressure of making the shows successful and grabbing eyeballs is always a huge task for the makers of these TV shows. This task not only forces them to resort to cheap and shocking tactics but also create controversies. Let’s take a look at most controversial shows of indian television.

1. Bigg Boss


Bigg Boss is one reality show that is a complete package of entertainment mixed with emotions and snubs that definitely can’t be ignored. Bigg Boss has always been surrounded by controversies. Right from the cat fight between the contestants to the kissing scenes between so called lovers the show remarkably entertained the audience.

2. Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao


Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao is the Indian version of the popular British reality game show I’m a Celebrity…Get Me out of Here!. The basic concept is the same, where a group of celebrities have to survive in a jungle camp without any amenities, and must compete with each other to stay on in the show. Every contestant gets a handful of rice and some soyabean/lentils for food every three days. Many celebs like Shweta Tiwari, Jay Bhanushali and Akashdeep Saigal create many controversies at the show. The content of the show was something that could not be seen with the family.

3. MTV Splitsvilla


MTV Splitsvilla is an Indian television reality show that airs on MTV India. The reality show revolves around young boys and girls trying to secure a place in “Splitsvilla”, a villa. It is a “hunt for love” show where boys and girls compete in tasks to stay in the competition and mingle with the contestants to find love. In the end, one boy and one girl are crowned the winners of Splitsvilla, as a couple. There are a lot of fights, jealousy, hatred, friendship, backstabbing, and love when all these wild contestants get together.

4. Emotional Atyachar


Emotional Atyachar is a reality show in which a person who doubts his/her boyfriend’s/girlfriend’s loyalty, can ask for a loyalty test on him/her. Till now, five seasons of the show have been broadcast. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed, in 2011, by Indraprashtha People, an NGO, through its President Sanjay Tiwari Ujala. He said “through this programme, the TV channel has been hurting the feeling of viewers, spreading vulgarity and demoting social and moral values in our society.”

5. SuperStud – School of Flirt


SuperStud – School of Flirt was host by Ashmit Patel and Natasha Suri. Both guide the contestants that how to flirt. They guide 13 young men on the path to becoming India’s first SuperStud.

6. MTV Roadies


MTV Roadies is a youth-based popular reality television show. However, the vulgar words which are used in the show, violence and nudity, the show is taken in the list of controversial show.

7. Pati Patni Aur Woh


Pati Patni Aur Woh is an Indian reality television programme. It is the Indian version of The Baby Borrowers. On the programme 1000 celebrity couples were tested in parenting. The show made headlines for its never seen before concept and soon found itself in the middle of a controversy. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights sent a notice to the makers of the show asking them to stop its telecast claiming violation of a child’s rights. TV celeb’s like Rakhi Sawant and her then partner on the show, Elesh Parujanwala, Apoorva Agnihotri and Shilpa Saklani, Gurmeet Choudhary and Debina were some of the celebrity couples who took part in the show. However, the controversy soon faded out when Delhi High Court High Court allowed the channel (NDTV Imagine) to telecast the desi version.

8. Sacch Ka Saamna


The show is based on the same format as The Moment of Truth. The show was hosted by heartthrob Rajeev Khandelwa. The show first encountered controversy when the Information and Broadcasting Ministry sent a show cause notice to Star Plus following Samajwadi Party MP Kamal Akhtar’s objection to the personal questions asked on the show. Kamal Akhtar objected to one of the personal questions asked on the show to a contestant about his bedroom life.

9. Bani – Ishq Da Kalma


The title of the show was previously decided by the directors as ‘Gurbani – Ishq Da Kalma’. but some of the Sikh associations were completely opposed with the shows caption. As the name Gurbani depicts the beliefs of Sikh Gurus. After scratching with so many controversies later on in the title the name was changed to Bani.

10. Jodha Akbar


Ekta Kapoor’s TV show Jodha Akbar was always a topic of discussion since its execution. The TV show ran into controversy when the Rajput Kshatriya Akhil Bharatiya Chatariya Sabha protested saying that the serial is projecting false information about Jodha marrying Akbar to save her father’s kingdom. The serial saw protest from some other communities also who demanded that the show should be taken off-air and claimed that a person called ‘Jodha’ never existed. However, despite of several controversies the shows continues to win hearts of audiences’ with the performances.
